This is an absolutely essentail step in the evolution of health care in America. If people would take the time to organize their health history in the same way their organize their iPhone photos and music, the tremdendous costs associated with redundant tests and procedures would be reduced.

Thanks for a very insightful article We should take ownership and responsibility for all our medical records. It’s safer not to solely rely on the doctor’s clinic to keep our files.

Patients must embrace this technology. It is well worth it and can possibly save your life in an emergency. This will prevent all the redundant questions and paperwork needed to be filled out everytime you see a doctor or walk into an emergency room. I hate checking off boxes on my past medical history forms everytime I see a doctor. Takes me like 20 minutes just to fill out that stuff out. Im sure the elderly have a tougher time.

This is something that is so pertinent to everyone- not just the medical community. I agree with Mongr- this informatin should be passed on to patients, family members of patients and the population in general. Although it may seem like a lot of work to collect all of your medical records, it is nothing in comparison to having them readily available for any situation that may arise. Even if you are switiching to a new doctor, this information is great to have at your fingertips.

I know the importance of this and will start a file today. It almost cost me my life a few years ago because I live alone and had none of this readily available. They should teach patients this in the ER
